Paris Saint-Germain Overcomes Marseille on Penalties to Claim Trophee des Champions Super Cup in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now claimed the season-opening cup on 14 separate times.

Paris Saint-Germain required a stoppage-time leveler followed by a successful penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in Kuwait and capture a fourth straight Trophee des Champions victory.

The European champions appeared to be sailing towards a comfortable triumph in the showdown between the French league champions and the Coupe de France holders after Ousmane Dembele opened the net in the opening stages.

Yet, Marseille fired twice late to take a shock advantage. Initially, Mason Greenwood scored from the spot-kick, before the defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking twist of fortune, the Portuguese striker snatched a vital leveler in the dying moments to force the match into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then stood as the hero, stopping crucial attempts from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and the young talent all scored successfully for PSG to complete a convincing shootout victory.

The record winners PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now won this competition for the 12th time in the past thirteen years.
